This simple pose can undo the effects of lots of stress. Some yoga experts claim that practicing a restorative yoga pose, is more restful than sleep. Even just 15 minutes worth can have profound benefits.

Get as Comfortable as Possible

The key to really relaxing deeply, is to use cushions, pillows, bolsters or whatever you got, to get yourself as comfortable as possible. This is not a one size fits all deal. Experiment with different props, until you are totally comfortable.

For Best Results

  • Let your friends and family know you are going to take a break
  • Turn off the cell phone
  • Carpeted floors work well, you can also use blankets  or a yoga mat for more cushion underneath.
  • Explore the linen closet for extra pillows, blankets and cushions
  • When you are ready to finish up, roll onto your right side, and rest there for a few moments. The head comes up last.
  • Sit quietly with your eyes closed for a few more minutes
Tip: If you suffer from insomnia, try getting up and set yourself up in a restorative pose. Lie quietly, focusing on your breath. Try going back to bed when you feel ready. If you suffer from insomnia almost every night, set up your space ahead of time with your blankets and pillows. Then when you can't sleep, it will be there waiting for you. Beats tossing and turning!
