Spring Liver Cleanse Print E-mail

Spring is the traditional time for liver cleansing in many cultures.

My Liver takes far more abuse than my grandparents had to deal with. Modern living has created a bunch of new toxins that our ancestors were never exposed to. Our livers just get overworked and have a hard time keeping up.

What's great is, nature provides many natural plants that grow well in the spring season.

Dandelion for the Liver

Dandelion is one great example of an herb that has been used by herbalists. Most people just try to rid themselves of this noxious weed.

I picked some dandelion right out of my organic garden and threw it into my salad.

I wouldn't recommend consuming dandelion that has been sprayed with any chemicals. If fertilizers or sprays have been used on a lawn, don't eat it. Only organic dandelion is suitable for human consumption.

While the leaves are good in salads and other creative dishes, the root is often used in tea or capsule form.

You can try growing it on purpose, in your garden. You may also find bunches of dandelion greens at the health food store.

Milk Thistle a Classic Liver Herb

Milk Thistle is also a classic herb for the liver. It is a start favorite amongst herbalist. I like to look for herbal tea formulas that contain milk thistle, or I might just empty a milk thistle capsule into some hot water with an herbal tea bag for flavor.

During my 21-Day Detox Boot Camp, I'm going to give my liver an extra helping hand with some liver cleanisng herbs.
